After many days of searching, I wanted to take a lump of clay from creative mode. Instead they are smelted into the furnace as refined materials for crafting. I started the new game on A17, all was beautifully, I have survived 20 days but there was a problem I couldnt find lumps of clay and without it I cant made forged iron. These ores and scraps are not used directly in the crafting process. Ores and scraps are placed in the two boxes on the right most panel. Just know that you don't directly smelt ores and scraps into crafted items.
